Seeking a Special Someone to Join Our Little Family – Part-Time Nanny / Carer / Support Worker
📍 Location: Sunbury, Victoria 🕒 Hours: Approximately 6 hours per day, 3–4 days per week (18–24 hours weekly) 💰 Privately funded, paid position 🌻 Ideally a consistent, long-term arrangement
Hello! 👋🏼
I’m a single mum to a beautiful, spirited and incredibly special 6-year-old boy, Ruben, and we’re hoping to find a kind, patient, compassionate and engaging person to become part of our little family.
Ruben has recently been diagnosed with Level 2 Autism (ASD), ADHD and a PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) profile.
He started Prep this year, but unfortunately, the transition to school has been incredibly challenging. Due to significant anxiety, emotional dysregulation and difficulty coping with the demands of school, he’s currently on a reduced timetable of just 9:15am–11:00am. Even then, there are often 1–3 days each week when attending school is simply too overwhelming for him.
Despite receiving 1:1 support at school, Ruben hasn’t been able to participate in a classroom environment or engage with his peers for over five months.
My biggest wish is to help Ruben rediscover his confidence, happiness and sense of belonging. 💛
Over recent months, his world has become increasingly small. He has developed a significant fear of wind, making outdoor activities and leaving the house particularly challenging. He’s become quite socially isolated, and I’d love to gently help him reconnect with the world through positive experiences, play, outings and new environments, always at a pace that feels safe for him.
More recently, screen time has become another challenge. His iPad has developed into an unhealthy fixation, and I’m hoping to gradually reduce his reliance on it by introducing engaging, creative and enjoyable alternatives.
A little about us…
I own and run a commercial real estate agency, and as a single mum, I’ve had to significantly step back from working in the office to support Ruben through this difficult period.
We have NDIS funding and currently engage a wonderful support worker one day per week. Unfortunately, our funding doesn’t stretch far enough to provide the additional support we need, so this position will be privately funded.
I’m hoping to find someone who can provide consistent care and companionship for Ruben, allowing me to return to the office while knowing he’s safe, supported and genuinely happy.
🌻 Who we’re looking for…
Someone who:
- Is warm, nurturing, patient, reliable and genuinely enjoys spending time with children.
- Ideally has experience supporting neurodivergent children, particularly those with ASD, ADHD, PDA and emotional regulation challenges.
- Understands the importance of building trust and connection, rather than relying on rigid expectations or demands.
- Is playful, creative and enthusiastic about finding activities that capture Ruben’s interests.
- Can gently encourage outdoor adventures, social experiences and time away from screens without overwhelming him.
- Can remain calm, compassionate and reassuring through difficult moments.
- Is interested in developing a meaningful, consistent and long-term relationship with our family.
🐾 You’ll also meet Bear!
Our very large, very fluffy Husky × German Shepherd × Labrador, who is very much part of our family.
Bear is predominantly an inside dog, sheds enough hair to create several additional dogs 😂, and has a rather impressive protective bark. But he’s an absolute gentle giant who adores people, affection and cuddles!
Being comfortable around large dogs is essential.
What we’re offering…
We’re looking for approximately 6 hours per day, 3–4 days per week, with some flexibility around days and arrangements for the right person.
This is a privately funded, paid position, and remuneration can be discussed based on experience and suitability.
Most importantly, I’m hoping to find someone who genuinely connects with Ruben and can become a trusted, positive and consistent presence in his life.
I’m not expecting someone to come in and magically fix everything. I understand there will be challenging days, and we’re navigating a lot of changes ourselves.
We don’t need perfection. We need patience, connection, consistency and someone who genuinely cares. 💛
Ultimately, we’re just trying to find our feet again, rebuild Ruben’s confidence and establish a happier, more sustainable new normal.
The right person would be an incredibly valued part of our little family. 🥰
If this sounds like you, or you know someone who might be a wonderful fit, I’d absolutely love to hear from you.
Thank you 🙏🏽
