Top 10 Tips For Hiring A New Year's Eve Babysitter

Follow these handy tips for hiring a NYE babysitter so you can celebrate worry-free while your kids are safe and happy.

1. Book early

New Year’s Eve is one of the busiest nights for babysitters, so secure yours weeks (or months) in advance.

2. Expect higher rates

Many babysitters charge holiday premiums, so be prepared to pay extra for the special occasion.

3. Check experience

Choose sitters who are confident handling late nights and possibly multiple kids or group settings.

4. Confirm availability

Double-check that the babysitter is comfortable staying past midnight and knows when you’ll return.

5. Ask about overnight care

If you plan to stay out late, consider booking an overnight sitter for everyone’s peace of mind.

6. Provide entertainment

Stock up on kid-friendly activities, games, and maybe a little “kid’s countdown” to keep children happy.

7. Share bedtime routines

Write clear instructions so the sitter can smoothly handle bedtime even if you’re away at midnight.

8. Exchange emergency contacts

Make sure they have your number, a backup contact, and details for neighbors or family nearby.

9. Set house rules

Go over screen time, snacks, and whether the kids can stay up later than usual for the occasion.

10. Show appreciation

Since they’re giving up their holiday evening, consider a bonus, a meal, or a thank-you gift to make them feel valued.
