Top 10 Tips For Hiring A Dog Walker

Follow these handy tips for hiring a dog walker so you know your pup is in safe, reliable hands.

1. Check experience

Look for walkers who have worked with dogs of similar size, breed, and temperament.

2. Verify credentials

Ask about pet first aid/CPR certification and whether they’re insured and bonded.

3. Request references

Speak to past or current clients for honest feedback.

4. Meet in person

Arrange a meet-and-greet to see how your dog responds to them.

5. Discuss routines

Ensure they can stick to your dog’s feeding, walking, and medication schedule.

6. Ask about group walks

Clarify whether they walk multiple dogs at once or provide solo walks.

7. Check reliability

Confirm their backup plan in case they’re sick or unavailable.

8. Look for communication

Choose someone who provides updates, photos, or reports after walks.

9. Test with a trial walk

Start with a short session to assess how your dog and the walker get along.

10. Clarify policies

Go over payment, cancellations, keys/access to your home, and emergency procedures.
